History of Discovery Microbial Sensing by Toll Receptors A Historical Perspective

چکیده
The family of Toll-like receptors plays an essential role in the induction of the immune response. These receptors sense the presence of microbial ligands and activate the nuclear factorB transcription factor. We review the key studies that led from the formulation of the concept of pattern recognition receptors to the characterization of Toll-like receptors, insisting on the important role played by the model organism Drosophila melanogaster and on the increasing evidence connecting these receptors to cardiovascular disease. Microbial sensing by Toll receptors: a historical perspective.
The family of Toll-like receptors plays an essential role in the induction of the immune response. These receptors sense the presence of microbial ligands and activate the nuclear factor-κB transcription factor. We review the key studies that led from the formulation of the concept of pattern recognition receptors to the characterization of Toll-like receptors, insisting on the important role p...

The 100,000th scientific article on the subject of spermatozoa was recently published. Many studies have evaluated the characteristics of this important cell leading to great discoveries. Since its first observation and description in 1677, many important characteristics have been described regarding this highly fascinating gamete. In this review, our objective has been to provide a historical ...

Background: Male infertility refers to the inability of a male to achieve a pregnancy in a fertile female. The root of many causes of infertility is miscommunication between immune and reproductive system. Male reproductive system is very sensitive and vulnerable, infections can hinder maturation and movement of spermatozoa lead to impaired fertility. All species need an immediate reply to the m...
متن کاملMicrobial sensing by Toll-like receptors and intracellular nucleic acid sensors.
Recognition of an invading pathogen is critical to elicit protective responses. Certain microbial structures and molecules, which are crucial for their survival and virulence, are recognized by different families of evolutionarily conserved pattern recognition receptors (PRRs). This recognition initiates a signaling cascade that leads to the transcription of inflammatory cytokines and chemokine...

Besides their well known functions in storage and translation of information nucleic acids have emerged as a target of pattern recognition receptors that drive activation of innate immunity. Due to the paucity of building block monomers used in nucleic acids, discrimination of host and microbial nucleic acids as a means of self/foreign discrimination is a complicated task. Pattern recognition r...
